  1. Chocolate pretzel peanut bars

January 23, 2014 by Emily Pergament

These delicious little bars were such a pain in the fanny to make, but they are pretty good. Don’t they look yummy?

I got the recipe here (it’s the last recipe on the page), but Martha, I had some issues with it.

First of all, this probably isn’t meant to be made in a 9×13″ pan. I transferred it to an 8×8″. The chocolate didn’t melt, so the peanuts were falling off, so I put more chocolate on top in hopes that it would melt over the peanuts and then I would refrigerate it and the chocolate would harden and there would be no more loose peanuts. But for some reason, the chocolate didn’t melt! The recipe called for it to be cooked for 20-22 minutes, but I probably put it in for an hour waiting for this chocolate to melt, and I eventually gave up. Anyway, they taste good but they were a pain to make and they are super crumbly.

Oh and this was the first time I ever cooked with parchment paper! I don’t know why I had such an aversion to it before. My house didn’t burn down, so overall, it was a good experience.

  2. Treat House

August 18, 2013 by Emily Pergament

The time between deciding to go to the Treat House and going was rather short. We were planning to go to the Upper West Side anyway because I had a Groupon that was going to expire soon, and then when I read about the Treat House, making a pit stop there was a no-brainer.

  3. Wedding dessert bar

October 3, 2012 by Emily Pergament

In addition to the wedding cake, we had a dessert bar with cannolis (at Rob’s request; I don’t like them!), chocolate peanut butter chip cookies and blondies (those two were at my request, and my mom made them), and chocolate covered strawberries, which were included in the reception package.

Craving key lime pie but just can’t handle the calories? Get a key lime Greek yogurt (I like Oiko’s or Yoplait Greek),

break up a square of a graham cracker on top of it and add a dollop of fat-free whipped topping. Yummy and guilt free!

  5. Birthday brownies

September 14, 2012 by Emily Pergament

Look what I made for my birthday party!

Here’s what makes them birthday brownies:

Oreos and Reeses. My guests deserve only the utmost in decadence.

Tip if you’re going to do this yourself: Let the brownies cool most of the way before putting them in. Make sure they’re still a little warm though so the Oreos and Reeses can be pushed in.

Hopefully people enjoy this at my birthday party tomorrow! Email me (emily@fatinmanhattan.com) if you are in NYC and you want to come.

  6. First tasting

September 13, 2012 by Emily Pergament

Last night the Emily invention machine was at work in our kitchen, as she worked her magic with the ingredients she found in the fridge. Since we do not stock ingredients in our fridge (this is not an ingredient, its a finished masterpiece, though its leftovers were indeed in the fridge until I happily inhaled them tonight), she had very little to work with. Specifically, there was:

    • some different Greek yogurt flavors
    • sugar
    • grapefruit juice
    • cocoa powder

  7. Chocolate PB pretzel balls

September 8, 2012 by Emily Pergament

These choco PB pretzel balls were pretty straightforward too. I used chunky PB instead of smooth PB because we had chunky at home.

I mixed together all the ingredients except the chocolate and got this:
