  1. Chocolate pretzel peanut bars

These delicious little bars were such a pain in the fanny to make, but they are pretty good. Don’t they look yummy?

I got the recipe here (it’s the last recipe on the page), but Martha, I had some issues with it.

First of all, this probably isn’t meant to be made in a 9×13″ pan. I transferred it to an 8×8″. The chocolate didn’t melt, so the peanuts were falling off, so I put more chocolate on top in hopes that it would melt over the peanuts and then I would refrigerate it and the chocolate would harden and there would be no more loose peanuts. But for some reason, the chocolate didn’t melt! The recipe called for it to be cooked for 20-22 minutes, but I probably put it in for an hour waiting for this chocolate to melt, and I eventually gave up. Anyway, they taste good but they were a pain to make and they are super crumbly.

Oh and this was the first time I ever cooked with parchment paper! I don’t know why I had such an aversion to it before. My house didn’t burn down, so overall, it was a good experience.

  2. Chocolate-covered Oreos

    oreos

    1) Melt dark chocolate chips.

    2) Dip Oreos.

    3) Have your husband gently apply peanut butter chips on top.

    4) Cool until chocolate is hard.

    5) Try not to eat them all in one sitting.

I’m giving these to people at work for Christmas. I usually make cookies, but these seem so much better.

Thanks to my mother, who made chocolate-covered pretzels a Christmas tradition. I just kicked it up a notch, if I say so myself.

  3. Bait and Hook

Me. Oh. MY, it has been a while since I’ve posted about a restaurant! Anyway, Rob and I went to Bait and Hook in the East Village on Friday. It’s a seafood restaurant (ya think?) and it’s on Savored and Rob was in the East Village for work, so of course we ate there.

We started with calamari and raw oysters, which I had never had before. They kind of just tasted like sea water – not awful, but not my favorite. I don’t think I’ll eat them again.

And I had a scallop roll (which had jalapenos and bacon on it!).

I also had a mojito, which was good, but way too small for them to charge $11. Overall though, the prices were reasonable for a NYC seafood restaurant, even more so because it’s on Savored.

North Fork kettle cooked BBQ chips, grown and produced in Mattituck, NY.

I polished off this bag in less settings than I care to admit.

  6. Max Brenner

After hitting City Crab and Giorgio’s for happy hour on Friday, I was seriously craving a hot fudge brownie sundae or lava cake and ice cream. So since we were within walking distance of Max Brenner, naturally we ended up there. (A tourist trap, I know, but I can’t help myself – I love it.) I expected to wait a long time but they just so happened to have a high table for two ready just as we arrived.

We shared this huge hot cookie…Resampled_2013-10-04_19-58-46_25

  7. A.O.C. and a surprise birthday

October 6, 2013 by Emily Pergament

Surprise! I had a birthday! Not what I mean. Rob threw me a surprised birthday party for the big 2-5.

We started out the night at A.O.C., a place I found on Savored and really wanted to try. Rob didn’t even know that I wanted to try it, so that was an awesome coincidence that he made a reservation there.

We sat outside on the patio, which was huge! It was such a nice fall evening. I hope I get a few more nights out on a patio before it gets too cold.

The calamari was served with tartar sauce. TARTAR SAUCE, PEOPLE! Have you ever seen that before? I haven’t! But it makes perfect sense! And now I am a convert. I always/only want to eat calamari with tartar sauce.

  8. S Prime Steakhouse

Greetings! I haven’t been posting lately because I have been dealing with some really shitty personal stuff, but it’s better now, so here I am!

Rob and I went out to dinner tonight to S Prime Steakhouse for our first anniversary and it was so good! It’s in Astoria and it made me miss Astoria. Though if we went here every night… well we couldn’t afford that.

We started with this thing that the waiter brought out – a bleu cheese stuffed date, wrapped in bacon.

Then we shared the porterhouse, mashed potatoes and creamed spinach.sprime (1) sprime (2)

It was so delicious! The steak – well look at it. It was amazing. The mashed potatoes and the creamed spinach were so good too. There was a bottle of wine on the menu for over $3000 but we didn’t get that. We got a mini bottle, which you can kind of see in the background in that last picture.

Anyway, I am very stuffed and I was disappointed that we didn’t get the molten chocolate cake, but what can ya do. There is always next time!

  9. Intermezzo (and Jason Biggs)

We went to Intermezzo on Wednesday night with a Groupon for a bottle of wine, two appetizers, two entrees and two desserts. They had a special menu for Groupon patrons, which irked me somewhat – can’t they just say how much you can spend on each course and give you the regular menu? Jeez. But whatever. The food was good.

I had chicken parm because – as I’ve said before – I’m terribly uncultured, and chicken parm is pizza with fried chicken instead of bread, and how could you not want that?

This Cinnabon Groupon. If only I had a reason to go to Port Authority!

Where do you eat Cinnabon? The mall? Airport? Bus or train station?
