  1. Bonfire and Banter

April 24, 2013 by Emily Pergament

Two bars we have eaten at in Forest Hills.

We went to Bonfire tonight. We got salads and a side of onion ribbons, natch.

Rob’s salad had strawberries, feta, chicken, glazed walnuts, and whatever else you see above.

  2. The Most Glorious News All Day

…and perhaps all week, depending on how this week goes.

Hello, can you say Groupon to Studio Square? I sure can.

  3. City Crab happy hour

Rob and I were taking a walk through Flatiron today on our way to the East Village, when we passed by a sign for happy hour at City Crab. I look at every happy hour sign, especially on the weekend but mostly because I never want to miss a good deal, and this deal was incredible. Half off cocktails and select beer and wine, fine, the usual, BUT also half off select appetizers. HELLO! I love happy hour food deals. And the food here was really good.

We had oysters Rockefeller (creamed spinach, topped with a fried oyster, topped with what I assume was hollandaise sauce):

    …and lobster mac.macncheese

Each appetizer was $7. The party next to us had buffalo shrimp, which also looked very good, though I’ve never heard of putting buffalo sauce on shrimp. That was on the happy hour menu along with lots of other seafood options, like calamari, clams casino, peel and eat shrimp and raw oysters.

Oh and the best part is that happy hour is EVERYDAY from 4-7 p.m. I will be back everyday.

Rob and I are participating in a fundraiser, Cycle for Survival. We are on a team with four other people, and our team must meet the minimum fundraising requirement of $1000. In order to reach this amount, we are holding a happy hour at Turtle Bay on 2/22. Pay $10 at the door (this money goes toward our Cycle for Survival team), and then get half off drinks and appetizers.

If you don’t live nearby and would still like to make a donation to our team or if you want more details about the happy hour, please email me.

  5. Strand Smokehouse

December 3, 2012 by Emily Pergament

It’s been quite a while since I’ve added a new post, but this will be a good one. It’s a new beer garden-ish place right near us in Astoria. It’s actually more of a whiskey/bbq garden, so that’s pretty cool.

All the cocktails are $8 and are made with whiskey.

  7. Drinking consultants?

October 5, 2012 by Emily Pergament

I just saw this yesterday on a walk on my lunch break. The bar is called Phoenix Park, but it looks like it’s called “drinking consultants.” Ha.

Does anyone have any fun Friday night plans?

  8. Studio Square

September 16, 2012 by Emily Pergament

Studio Square is a beer garden in Astoria, and last night, I celebrated my birthday there. This is me and my balloons before anyone got there:

Those are the brownies under that foil! They were a big hit.

Like I said, we went to Almond for my birthday, and it was so good! I some how allowed myself to get the macaroni and cheese.

Anyway, before we went there, we went to Giorgio’s of Gramercy because they have a great happy hour special. I first had a cosmo:

  10. It’s like meeting mom and dad (+coupon for free wine!)

September 11, 2012 by Emily Pergament

Dear FIM readers – I am letting you meet Gleason’s. It’s like taking you home to mom and dad. Gleason’s is our neighborhood haunt. They have happy hour until 7:00 (it used to be 8:00 before they came under new management), with deals on drinks and appetizers. HH is Monday-Friday (used to be on Saturday, too), but it’s all day and all night on Mondays. I guess we missed it by a day tonight!

Here are the old faithful appetizers. Sometimes we get others (wings or truffle fries), but these never disappoint:
