  1. The hard knock life

So did anyone else notice the Internet is blowing up (see here, here, here, here and here) about the NYT docking Daniel a star? Yeah, apparently it’s because some people are offered “a napkin-covered bowl of rosemary- and lemon-scented water for rinsing [their] fingers” after eating “extraordinary fried lollipops of filleted frogs’ legs on a long stick of bone” while less fortunate diners are not. So now it has three Michelin stars and three NYT stars. Shame.

I am so hipster!* Look at these kale chips I made tonight:

kale chips*Served on a Lilly Pulitzer plate. Decidedly un-hip.

I just put them on a baking sheet, drizzled with EVOO, and salt and pepper, in the oven at 400 degrees for 15 minutes (but I think I cooked them too long). Anyway, they were pretty good. I might make them again, considering I still have so much kale in my fridge.

    Look at this:2013-05-20_09-40-04_417

This is pain au chocolat in Paris. It was my favorite thing to eat in Paris.

Last night, when we were in the Lower East Side, I saw a chocolate croissant at the cafe we went to, and I had to try it to see how it compared.

choc croissantUgh, it just wasn’t good. There was too much chocolate in it, the chocolate was soft and the bread part wasn’t right. But you see that huge American iced coffee? That is perfection.

Oh and Rob ate a blueberry crumble pie and said it was delicious:

It’s not pie. It’s not quiche. It’s not a fritatta. I don’t know what it should be called, but it is so good!

I made it this morning (recipe here) because I have so much kale and I don’t know what to do with it all.

Who has another good kale recipe?

Today was the day of two green pastas.

First, I had spicy cold peanut noodles (with spinach noodles) at LIC Flea.

This Cinnabon Groupon. If only I had a reason to go to Port Authority!

Where do you eat Cinnabon? The mall? Airport? Bus or train station?

It has always (within the past year or so) been a dream of mine to take a southern eating tour road trip, where I stop at all the best BBQ and fried food joints. Obviously I would have no idea where to go, and I bet researching all the different areas would be somewhat time-consuming. Luckily, I just discovered Roadfood.com, a guide to regional, non-franchised, cheap food. I will probably spend a few hours looking at their self-guided eating tours. Oh boy.
