  1. Our first real person party

Yesterday, Rob and I had a housewarming party for his family. Now, I say this is “our first real person party” because we hosted his family, who always outdoes themselves, so we had to bring out A game. No more putting out Fritos and guac and calling it a day. We put on outfits that we believed composed hosts would wear and did our best!

    We had:

Four (!! I couldn’t decide) kinds of crackers
Port wine cheese (my absolute favorite)
    Gouda with herbs and olives
Carrots, celery and ranch (ok, that one is a cop out)
    Chili and jelly meatballs
Rotisserie chicken (funny story – our gas won’t be on until the end of May)
Salad with lettuce, spinach, radishes, mushrooms, glazed walnuts and glazed cranberries
Fruit salad with apples, oranges, strawberries and pineapples
    Assorted cookies
And a champagne toast to the new home, of course

So I think a good time was had by all, and I’d say our first party in our new home was a success.

  2. Bonfire and Banter

April 24, 2013 by Emily Pergament

Two bars we have eaten at in Forest Hills.

We went to Bonfire tonight. We got salads and a side of onion ribbons, natch.

Rob’s salad had strawberries, feta, chicken, glazed walnuts, and whatever else you see above.

  3. Oh hello, my Friday night date

April 19, 2013 by Emily Pergament

Sitting at home on a Friday night just reading the Internet, and what do I stumble across? Baked potato grilled cheese. Doesn’t that look delicious.

Who had a hot date tonight? Who stayed home and watched the news?

Phew! The past week has been quite the whirlwind. We moved and I just got the internet set up here. So of course the first thing I do is update FIM because I’m pretty sure it’s been forgotten about since I haven’t updated it in forever.

Ok well let’s see. I suppose the most exciting adventure in eating that I have had lately is this glorious slice right here:

Can you tell what this is? This is a piece of pizza with fried eggplant, ricotta and extra sauce on top. Oh man. I’ve eaten it twice already. It’s from Portofino. Want to know a fun fact? The first piece of pizza I ate when I got to college was eggplant pizza! That was also the day that Rob and I met. Awww.

Well I just wanted to pop in real quick and say hello and sorry for my absence!

  5. Does this ad offend you?

April 11, 2013 by Emily Pergament

Dear readers: what do you think of this McDonald’s billboard? I think it’s kind of funny, and if I didn’t know that others were offended by it, I wouldn’t have even considered that it could be offensive! But according to that article, McDonald’s issued an apology. When I clicked the article, I was expecting something much juicier in terms of an offensive ad debacle. Maybe next time.

Thanks to Dan for showing me the Thug Kitchen blog. Please don’t look if you have delicate sensibilities. But now you’re probably curious and will look anyway…

  7. Get ready…

…for LIC Flea & Food. From what limited information there is on their site, I think it will be Smorgasburg-esque. Every weekend in Queens.

  8. Accomplishment

April 7, 2013 by Emily Pergament

I made a vinaigrette today all by myself, and I think it emulsified properly. I’m quite proud of myself.

Who else accomplished something this week?

Claire, thank you for alerting me to this wonderful deal! Sign up to receive New York Deals, and get a voucher for a free cupcake from Crumbs. Mmmm.

Who has a favorite cupcake from Crumbs? My favorite is yellow cake, chocolate icing and rainbow sprinkles.

  10. Padre Figlio

April 3, 2013 by Emily Pergament

Me oh my, has it been a long time since I posted or what?

Let’s get down to business. Phyllis and I went to Padre Figlio last night for a three-course meal. We each got our own appetizer, entree and dessert.

I arrived a bit early so I sat at the bar and had a drink. I had the most expensive drink that I have ever bought in my life – a pomegranate martini, which was $16.15 after tax and tip. (Tax? Really? Boy was I surprised when there was tax added onto the advertised price!) It was rather strong, so that was good at least. And the atmosphere is super nice. It’s dark and cozy but not small, so you’re not on top of the diners next to you.

To start, a had an eggplant rollatini-type dish. It wasn’t called that, but that’s what it was. It was VERY hot and of course, delicious. How can you eat that much cheese and not think it’s delicious?0402031814
