  1. Christmas weekend in Maryland

    1

Rob and I went to Maryland for the weekend before Christmas. I took a lot more photos than this, but I don’t remember with whose camera or phone, so I may post more photos later.

First and foremost, the buche de noel, an annual tradition in my family. My mom pulls out this nasty old recipe every year.

  2. Pork teriyaki

I just pinned a recipe for pork teriyaki. God knows I’ll try any crock pot recipe once, so we gave this one a try. The recipe calls for three pounds of pork tenderloin, but once we prepared the recipe, we realized it was way too much for our crock pot, so we froze half. It was a really easy recipe with only a few ingredients, so we’ll probably make it again once we eat the frozen portion.

We ate it with brown rice, broccoli and green peppers.

  3. Honeymoon recap #3

For more than a decade, and most of our relationship, Emily did not eat mammals. It’s one of the more unique dietary habits. Apparently Emily had seen an episode of Survivor where the actors had staged a pig killing and been turned off by red meat. Since then she had been strictly a bird eater.

Like all followers of specific dietary regimen, Emily had a tendency to cheat, particularly when it came (ironically) to pork products like bacon and sausage. But she was fairly consistent in avoiding beef, for both health reasons and because she didn’t really miss the taste of burgers and she was never a big steak lover.

    Steak.

Here are some miscellaneous food-related things from our trip:

Spanish Frosted Flakes. Why does Tony the Tiger look evil?! So frightening that we had to take a photo.

I was FINALLY able to upload the photos from our honeymoon after two and a half months. We went to Aruba and spared no expense at any of our meals so we ate quite a lot of delectable food.

We went to Driftwood first. The owner fishes everyday and whatever he catches is what they have on the menu that day. So cool!

My grandma cut up Christmas cards from last year to make these sweet wine identifiers:

We had a delicious Christmas meal at Rob’s parents’ house. Here’s what we ate:

(There aren’t a lot of pictures of the finished products since I was too busy stuffing my face, and this isn’t even all the food we had – there was much more!)

Antipasto platter, featuring mozz and provolone cheese, olives, caponata, salami, proscuitto, red peppers, sardines, anchovies, artichokes, and I’m probably forgetting things!

Watch out for a post or two about what my family ate over the Christmas weekend. There were lots of goodies, and some aren’t too hard to make!

What did you eat? Did you cook?

If you were convinced that today was the apocalyse (though I doubt any FIM readers believe this), what would your last meal be? On second thought, it wouldn’t be a bad idea to believe today will be the end of the world so I can eat an awesome meal…

  10. How did I mess up cookies from a box?!

I really don’t understand. I bought another box of gingerbread mix and I followed the instructions exactly as they’re written, and yet I could not make the dough! WTF! It was super crumbly and wasn’t making a dough. So I added more butter. It didn’t help. I added more water. It didn’t help. Anyway, I lumped the crumbly/dough-ish concoction into little balls and put them on the cookie tray. I cooked them, and they were a wreck. How is it possible that I followed the directions and it didn’t work?!
