7-Eleven – where did it come from?

September 11, 2012 by Emily Pergament

Is it just me, or did there never used to be 7-Elevens in NYC and now they’re everywhere? When I first moved to NYC over six years ago, I could never find a 7-Eleven when I wanted to (all the time). Now, over the past year or so, I see so many going up! This one is going up near my office:

…and now I never want 7-Eleven since I’ve been able to live without it.

Am I right about this – they used to be nowhere, now they’re everywhere?

I was pretty surprised to learn they were putting one up in the Bronx Senior year at Fordham, and even more when they put one up on Ditmars after a few months in Astoria! Maybe they were just a LI thing up here before that…makes me feel like I’m back home!

I hate it. Maybe it is the colors or the fluorescent lights, but they look so tasteless and cheesy. They have been metastasizing in Manhattan over the summer and they are now opening on my block.
